Cannabis-Friendly States Extend an Invitation to Jeff Sessions.

Jeff Sessions, Jeff vs States

This past Thursday, State treasurers from California, Illinois, Oregon and Pennsylvania are seeking a meeting with the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to see if they can hopefully resolve the conflict between federal and state laws.
Sessions revoked a policy in January that kept federal authorities from cracking down on cannabis businesses in states where the drug is legal. In a letter, cannabis-friendly states have advised that business and financial institutions will need greater clarity on how federal law enforcement will respond to the growing trend of legalization. Earlier this month, Congress did extend restrictions that prevent the Justice Department from prosecuting medical marijuana cases in states that have legal marijuana industries. We’ll be keeping a close eye to see if Sessions will be receptive to this call to action.
