Amsterdam is known as the Hash Capital of the world. With all of its coffee shops, buying bud is a much easier ordeal-as long as you don’t wander into a real coffee shop. It seems some Netherland goodies have made their way over to the Vegas Valley.
Stroopwafels, a popular treat from the Netherlands, are two thin layers of dough pressed to look like waffles with caramel syrup inside. They are most popularly eaten with Tea or Coffee.
A medicated version of the cookies, created by CannaPunch, a Colorado based brand, has made its way to Vegas. The Stroopwafels are part of CannaPunch’s Dutch Girl line, a line that caters to those looking to “enjoy the cozy little comforts of home”.
They come in strawberry, lemon, and caramel flavors as well as 100 mg and 250 mg packages that each contain 10 cookies.
I did have the chance to try them and, as an avid edible eater, it was one of the best edibles that I’ve ever had in my entire life…the whole 27 years.
Taste Test
In Nevada, we only have the regular strength Stroopwafels available. This equals to about 10 does of 10 mg. The recommended dose for an infused-food newbie or for someone who doesn’t smoke much would be 5mg and 10mg for someone who consumes daily but does not eat edibles. Since I eat edibles more regularly on top of smoking, I consumed 3 to match my usual dose of 30-40 mg.
Note that edibles are a bit trickier than the traditional method of smoking flower; everyone reacts to edibles differently. It’s best to try a smaller dose first and add more as you go. You can always eat more but, you can’t undo what you have eaten.
CannaPunch has done well to mask the heavy cannabis smell and flavor that most infused items have. The taste and smell is still present but not overpowering. Because of the lack of lingering cannabis flavor, I did almost eat too many so be sure to avoid overdoing it. I had some errands to run and the sativa version seemed like the best option.
Potency Test
CannaPunch boast their Nano eXtraction Technology with all their infused products resulting in less time before edibles start to take an effect. This technology breaks Cannabis molecules down into smaller molecules so that they can be digested in less time than the typical treat. The tiny THC molecules start to absorb sublingually (i.e. under the tongue, through the blood stream) once you begin to eat.
About 20 minutes went by before my designated driver took notice of the effects. As most Sativa based items, I showed a positive boost in my mood, was much more talkative, and develop a light case of the stares. As 20 more minutes went by, our grocery run turned into me throwing everything remotely interesting into the cart and the stares had intensified.
I had no feeling of an overt ‘body high’. My experience was a much more ‘deep-in-thought’ feeling. Despite the strains or Terps used to create a Sativa edible, they can still have a heavy body high because of the chemical change that THC goes through once you digest it.
The effects lasted for about 4-5 hours after the initial reaction. I personally enjoyed this as I’m more Sativa leaning for creative purposes. If someone were looking for something to help with pain or relaxing, however, I would recommend the Indica instead. The Sativa’s did help with mild discomfort but would not be effective for more intense body pains.
The Verdict
CannaPunch knocked it out of the park with flavoring. As mentioned previously, most edibles have an overtly strong smell, taste, and leave the packing extremely greasy from the THC. I had none of those concerns with the Stroopwafels. I would love to have more dosing available in Nevada but, for someone who is not new to edibles, they still gave a lasting experience.
Whether you are a new user or an experienced one, I would recommend Stroopwafels. The edible market in Las Vegas doesn’t have a lot of variety despite tourists loving how discreet infused foods can be. CannaPunch is slowly adding more to those choices.
