February Budtender Spotlight

Budtender Spotlight
This month we would love to feature an amazing Budtender from Las Vegas, Nevada, Tracy Carson!

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Tracy and I’ve been in the cannabis industry for almost a year. In 2010 I went to Oaksterdam in Oakland California, with hope to work in the cannabis industry in Las Vegas. In 2010 things were not where they needed to be in Nevada but I never gave up. I continued to study and learn about cannabis and the changing laws surrounding it. In 2018 I was offered a job in the industry as a Budtender and began my cannabis career. I soon moved to Inyo Fine Cannabis dispensary where I found my fit mainly work as an inventory specialist.

Which dispensary do you work at?

Inyo Fine Cannabis

How long have you been a budtender?

1 year

What made you decide to work in the cannabis industry?

I saw cannabis change lives. I myself gave up opioids after a severe car accident by using cannabis. I also completely gave up my anti anxiety meds and replaced all my prescription drugs with cannabis and I live a fuller happier life since. My niece at age 23 was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had two children a husband and family that was not ready to let go. Along with cancer treatment she used cannabis to treat her cancer as well as the symptoms and side effects of chemo. 5 years later I’m happy to report she is thriving and her cancer has not resurfaced in the last 2 years. She’s living her life, watching her children grow and still using cannabis in her daily life.

What is one of the most common questions that you receive from patients?

What’s the highest THC you have? I love this question as it gives me a chance to talk about terpenes and what else to look for besides the ever popular THC %

Do you have any advice for first-time patients visiting a dispensary?

Be open minded. Be ready to try new ways to consume and tell your budtender what you are looking for. Don’t be afraid to try something new and keep in mind cannabis is not a cure all, however it can treat and help with many ailments. It’s also a fun recreational drug, so be specific and let us know what you’re looking for.

On average, how many patients per day do you help?

5 – 10

What is your favorite cannabis brand?

It’s hard to pick just one. Tahoe Hydro and Green Life Productions are probably tied for first.

What is your favorite strain?

Miss X by GLP and White Sangria by Tahoe Hydro.

What is your favorite way to consume?

Flower

What is your favorite part of being a budtender?

Sharing my personal knowledge of how cannabis has helped me and my family while learning how cannabis has worked for others.

Do you have any advice for aspiring budtenders?

Don’t give up. It took me 8 years to find the cannabis job I was looking for. Keep educating yourself. Attend every networking event you can and once again NEVER GIVE UP.

Thank you Tracy for being an amazing budtender and an awesome part of our cannabis community!
